The second cohort of the ATI Incubation Academy gathered recently to celebrate their completion of the program and to participate in a pitch contest to practice seeking grants.

The Los Angeles County Incubation Academy provides training, funding, and technical assistance to new and existing community-based organizations, especially those that serve underrepresented and justice-involved people.

The 26 organizations in the second cohort are part of the effort to build the capacity of service providers. This is foundational to justice reform efforts countywide and the County’s vision Care First, Jails Last.

In the second cohort:

• 100% of ATI Incubation Academy Cohort 2 participants have BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, or previously incarcerated leadership.
• 33% of Cohort 2 organizations provide housing for reentry and unhoused populations in high-needs areas defined using the Justice Equity Needs Index developed by the California Advancement Project.
• The top services organizations in Cohort 2 provide include mental health, substance use treatment, addressing co-occurring disorders and other wraparound services.

People who successfully completed the Alternatives to Incarceration pre-filing diversion program in Santa Monica were celebrated at a graduation event recently. ATI, in partnership with the Santa Monica City Attorney’s Office, the Santa Monica Police Department, and Exodus Recovery, operate this program in Santa Monica to connect eligible individuals with mental health, substance use, or housing needs to services in lieu of charges being filed. This helps keep people out of the jail and on the path to a safe and stable life. Along with the Santa Monica program, the pre-filing diversion program also operates in one Los Angeles police district and in Lancaster.

The 20 organizations in the inaugural cohort are part of the effort to build the capacity of service providers. This is foundational to justice reform efforts countywide and the County’s vision Care First, Jails Last.

In the  first cohort:

• 90% have BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ or previously incarcerated leadership
• 95% provide housing and other reentry services in high-needs areas
• 64%  are small organizations with 10 or fewer full-time employees.
