Pretrial Services Pilot

Program Overview

The Pretrial Services Pilot at the Airport Courthouse is a significant step toward achieving the Board of Supervisors’ vision for JCOD to become LA County’s Independent Pretrial Services Agency, coordinating, centralizing and interfacing between stakeholders within the County’s justice ecosystem and justice involved individuals.

The Pilot involves the implementation of a court-based navigator team to serve justice involved individuals and their loved ones by providing voluntary and holistic support and connecting them with community-based services and supportive resources. The court-based navigator team takes a client-centered approach, prioritizing the circumstances of each client to provide a tailored support and enhance their experience, addressing their holistic needs including transportation services, hearing reminders, emergency shelter and other social resources.

The Pilot program is the product of planning and collaboration among multiple stakeholders including the Los Angeles Superior Court, health and justice county departments, the Defense Counsel Bar, the LA County District Attorney’s Office, various city attorney offices and contributions from community-based organizations and justice-involved individuals. In the coming months, JCOD will launch voluntary service linkages to additional courthouses and begin the necessary steps to implement conditional releases.
