LOS ANGELES – The Justice, Care and Opportunities Department (JCOD) is partnering with Metro to help eligible LA County residents enroll in the LIFE Program through JCOD’s Developing Opportunities and Offering Reentry Solutions (D.O.O.R.S) sites.
D.O.O.R.S staff will help residents review eligibility requirements, complete applications and learn how to use their benefits. The partnership will help residents get to work, health care appointments and other services.
New LIFE participants can receive 90 days of unlimited free rides on Metro and 16 participating transit agencies. After that, they can receive 20 free rides each month on Metro or choose a discounted pass on another participating transit agency.
Los Angeles County residents may qualify if they have an EBT card, receive Medi-Cal or receive certain other public assistance. Residents may also qualify based on household income.
Interested applicants should bring identification and proof of income, if available, to a D.O.O.R.S location. Identification may include a driver’s license, student ID or passport, along with a pay stub, Medi-Cal card, public benefits letter or tax return. Metro also allows applicants to self-certify their income, subject to review. For full eligibility requirements or to apply online, visit metro.net/life.
“Transportation is critical for Angelenos to access jobs, education, health care and other essential services,” said Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins. “Metro is proud to partner with the Justice, Care and Opportunities Department to connect residents with our LIFE program, ensuring eligible individuals receive both immediate transit assistance and long-term benefits.”
